Kim Colebrook

Based in Abergavenny.

In my practice, I aim to incorporate texture and narrative, often creating very simple forms that will carry the intended message. My work is hand built or cast, integrating textures, colours and oxides. The narrative may be developed within a single vessel, or by combining numerous elements for wall displays or installations.

Much of my work is inspired by my passion for telling the stories of South Wales, the people that drove the Industrial Revolution and the natural assets that gave this area the opportunity to lead the world.

Heightened from working in heritage and tourism sectors across the UK for almost 30 years, I seek to combine this fascination with history and geology with my love of ceramics to develop work that tells a narrative. I often explore historical events, such as the Aberfan Disaster, which is the topic that I explored for my graduate show.

I studied for Contemporary Design Crafts BA at Hereford College of Arts and then went on to study Ceramics MA at Cardiff Met University. Upon graduating, I was awarded a Graduate Workshop at the Fireworks Clay Studios in Cardiff where I was based for a year. I am now based in my own studio in Abergavenny.
